Good News and Bad News...

So I got some real good news today...

I don't gots to go to my groomer on Saturday!

The bad news is that mom and Pippen had to take me to the Emergency last night!

I had been licking my paw a lot so mom took a look at it and guess what... it was totally all swollen up!

Mom suspected spear grass also known as foxtail... so off we went to the hospital.

One of the nice ladies took me into the back room and then the doctor went and talked to mom and Pippen.

The doctor said that I let them look at it but when they wanted to touch it I got mad.  So the doctor said that they would have to sedate me and open up my paw to see if any bad things were inside.

And then the went home!  Just left me there!  Can you imagine it?

Mom called the hospital early this morning and they said if she brought lots of bags of cash, they would release me.  Pippen tells me that she really hemmed and hawwed over that but eventually decided to spring me from jail.  Good thing, I'm thinking!

The doctor said that they did a big incision and went real deep but couldn't find any foreign material (really why the heck was he looking for material when mom told him it was spear grass???)  He said that they flushed the wound and stitched me back up so I should be good to go once I'm all healed up.

So for the next few days, I'm gonna take my pain meds and antibiotics...

and catch a sunbeam and have some really good dreams.

Oh and you know what?  Now that the crisis is over... Mom's calling me "Gimpy"

  4. That Pippin! He's talking rubbish. We bet your mum had big bags of cash ready before they called.

Great news about the groomers, but bummer about your foot.

Hope it heals soon and you can drop that 'Gimpy' moniker.

  5. Poor you..your paw must hurt terribly. I once had a dog who hurt his paw and it seemed to hurt him forever..he was constantly limping and getting lots of extra fussing..I was getting really worried until I noticed him limping on the wrong paw!!
    Hope you feel better soon.

  14. Sam...Riley can commiserate with you...she's had TWO of those dreaded bandages on her front feet (both were pink though) after she had to have surgeries on broken nails. Tell Mama to have fun getting that thing off! (Don't bite her tooooo hard...ha ha ha!).

You all are in Canada, right? (I get confused where everybody lives...haha). You know what would make you feel tons better? Winning some organic dog treats in our contest! Just e-mail us a picture (or pictures) of you and Pippen staying cool on a hot day at riley.acd@gmail.com and you'll be entered!

Wow, leaving you like that is just rotten! I'm sorry the dogtor did a slice-n-dice on your paw, but at least there was nothing major wrong. I think you should milk this for all it's worth...think ice cream!!! Every good patient gets ice cream, right?? Sending you my healing thoughts for a fast recovery.
