Frankie Furter's July 4th Name Game!

Seamus O'Rourke...

That's what mom wanted to name me just because she liked how it sounded...

BUT this is what happened instead.

My mom quit her job to look after my gramma full time because she had Alzheimer's and needed someone to stay with her.  After a couple of weeks, my mom thought getting a puppy would be a good idea so they went to look...

and found me!

Gramma said, 'what are you going to name him?'

Mom said, 'Seamus'  and gramma made 'the face'...

So mom had a thought...  years ago, they had a doggie named Sam (a girl beagle, but we won't go there...)  This here is a picture of my mom when she was just a puppy herself with Sam the beagle's puppies...

and mom figured that because gramma's memorys wasn't working like it used to, maybe that would help her remember my name.  It didn't but I still loved her lots and lots...

Mom says looking back it's a good thing I wasn't named Seamus...  she says she wouldn't be calling me that anyway...  Mom says that once she got to know me, she would have had to call me Shameless...

I'm not sure what she means by that remark...

One day when I was still a little puppy, mom and I went for a walk.  We met lots and lots of doggies that day but there was one little black one that mom liked.  Mom asked his dad what the little doggy's name was and his dad said, 'Pippen'  Mom said that that was a really nice name...

On our way back to our car, mom said to me, 'one day we'll get a puppy for you and his name is going to be Pippen!'

and that's exactly what happened!

All we had to do was find the right puppy for his name... and I think we did a pretty good job of it!

Pippen was Pippen even before he was a twinkle in his dad's eye!

So now you know that we weren't named after the Hobbits in the Lord of the Rings...  it just happened to work out that way!

  1. Shameless, hehehe.

Hey! Great story. Of course I bet you are called lots of other things at times. Seems humans have no end of nicknames in them.

  2. Your names suit you perfectly and what a good job you did not stay Seamus although I can't think why your Momma would call you shameless.

  4. When I was kid we had a black lab (girl) named Sam - at the same time we had a Siamese cat named Sarah.Sam was much too bouncy for Sarah - but Sarah could leap to the top of the refrigerator in one jump - so there, Miss Sam. I like your cute names, and personally I'm glad most dogs are shameless!

  11. I just luvs your names. I like the name Seamus, too, but you most definitely seem more like a Sam. And I didn't put it in my bloggie today but one of my runner-up names was Pippen, too! I think your Pippen is much more a Pippen than I woulda been.
